Update - 2010 Washington D.C. Scholarships.
Again this year MEF made available two $500.00 scholarships to the 8th grade class. In order to be considered for a scholarship the students had to write an essay and submit it to the Foundation along with their current grades and letters of recommendation.
The process for evaluating applicants is anonymous. Once all applications are submitted our foundation president processes them. All documents are modified to hide the applicant names. The applications are distributed to the members of the board for consideration and voting. Our president abstains from the voting process since she has processed the applications and seen the names. The remaining board members vote on all applications based on the quality of the submissions.
The Mokena Educational Foundation would like to thank all the students that submitted essays for the 2010 Washington D.C. scholarships. The essays were well thought out and very well written. It was difficult to choose among them. Two applicants were granted a $500 scholarship each. The individuals have been notified and the Junior High School Office made aware of our selections. Congratulations to everyone for excellent submissions and to the two individuals chosen to receive the scholarships this year.
